Cisco Oriented Course Syllabus

Ø      Fundamentals on internetworking:

In this Section we will discuss about the IP Communication procedures and topologies within the same Autonomous system (AS) area and also between the different Autonomous systems (ASes). The module will also contain compact brief on OSI model and its implementation in Internetworking worlds.

Ø       Significance of Cisco equipments in ISP environment:

Through this module we will explore the Cisco vendor equipment products and how they behave in enterprise network. There will be a short session too      on different Cisco certifications and their importance and applications.

Ø      Cabling Techniques:

As a network engineer every one must have complete grasp on proper cabling techniques. Students will receive hands on experience on different types of CAT5 cables and their practical utilization within internetworking boundary.

Ø      IP addressing and Sub netting:

Layer3 devices such router or layer3 switches always communicate using

IP(Internet Protocol) addresses. Because of the importance of IP addresses and also

Due to its unavailability, effective IP addressing is very important. In this module we will discuss on why and how the migration occurs between  class full  and classless ip address using Variable Length subnet Mask(VLSM).

Ø      Basic Cisco Router Configurations :

This is the Basic Introductory practical class on Cisco router Configuration.

Students will learn the most common but frequently used configuration commands

Using HYPERTERMINAL and Remotely using TELNET command.

Ø      Fundamentals of IP Routing:

One router communicates with other one maintaining routing protocols. In this section we will classify the routing protocols according to their behavior, advertisement and convergence time. After          this module student can easily pickup which   routing protocol will suit its network.

Ø      RIP(Routing Information Protocol)/ IGRP(Interior Gateway Routing protocol)Configurations :

The above routing protocols belong to Distance vector routing protocol.

Both are suitable in small enterprise network. After finishing this module students will gain knowledge in configuring these protocols and their implementation and behavior in Loop free networking environment.

Ø      Open Shortest Path First Routing Protocol (OSPF)/EIGRP(Enhanced Gateway Routing Protocol) Configurations:

OSPF and EIGRP both are very popular Link state Routing protocols, and frequently used in Large Scale ISP environment as IGP (Interior Gateway protocol).Configurations of OSPF and EIGRP and their Troubleshooting techniques will be clearly discussed in this module.

Ø      Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Configurations and Implementation in Multihoming environment:

BGP is the most popular routing protocols used in different autonomous systems. In the ISPs where multiple links exist to the different upstream for redundancy purposes, BGP might be only solution. In this module students will learn about the BGP configurations and will get a preview to its auto redundancy behavior.

Ø      Cisco Layer 2 switch configurations

Cisco Layer2 Catalyst switches might be best option in case of managing LAN communications. Configuration commands will be taught to manage Cisco catalyst switches and also to configure Spanning Tree protocol (SPF),because this Protocol is used when two CISCO switches wants to communicate with each other.

Ø      VLAN implementation and configuration:

The main problem with the Layer2 devices is that it can’t segment the broadcast domain, so the chance of network loops and unstable network yet exists. Implementation of Virtual LAN can segment network in to various broadcast domains as Layer3 devices do. How to configure VLANS and how to configure different VLAN to communicate with each other will be discussed here.

Ø      IP security:

In this module we will teach on access-lists. Using this tool Cisco Network experts effectively control ip traffic generating to outside network and coming to the network. Both the standard and extended access-list configuration commands will be discussed here.

Ø      Trouble-Shooting Cisco Routers:

In this module we will discuss on some practical problems Cisco network engineers always feel. From our practical experience we will guide students to overcome all this problems and how to troubleshoot them .In this module we will reveal some tips and tracks that will definitely help students to get rid of panics made by Cisco equipments.
